Located less than an hour north of Atlanta, Cumming, Georgia is much smaller than its vibrant urban neighbor. However, Cumming possesses a small-town southern comfort that folks have come to expect from cities and towns in Georgia. Cumming draws its name from the courageous and famous American Colonel William Cumming. Cumming was a highly distinguished officer who fought in the War of 1812. 22 years later in 1834, the city that was named after him was incorporated.
The discovery of gold near the area brought many settlers to the city in its earliest days. While many left later to find gold in California, their presence helped Cumming grow in its youth. The city also grew due to its survival during the bloody Civil War. The city was spared during Union General William T. Sherman’s March to the Sea.

This Georgia city is still growing today. The completion of the Georgia 400 allowed the city to connect with Atlanta more than ever. Now Cumming serves as a major commuter city for workers in Atlanta.

Cumming is home to several events that will make you feel right at home. The most notable of these is the Cumming County Fair and Festival that is held every October. Additionally, many celebrities call this city home, such as Zac Brown of the Zac Brown Band.

Taking a trip to Cumming, Georgia does not feel like an excursion to an unknown location. Rather, each trip to the city feels just like a true homecoming!
