classic Halloween moviesIt’s almost October, which means it’s time to start binge-watching scary movies, from slasher flicks to ghost stories and everything between. Whatever your usual taste in horror is, you’re sure to enjoy at least a few of these classic Halloween movies.

How could we not start off with the actual Halloween franchise? The originals are always the best, and the first Halloween movie, released in 1978 and featuring the original slasher Michael Myers, spawned a generation of slasher flicks. Other classic scary movies to watch this month: Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and the meta films Scream and Cabin in the Woods.

Trick ‘R Treat is a lesser known Halloween movie, but it’s the perfect choice for a spooky movie showing. A series of interconnected vignettes, the film features Anna Paquin as a werewolf and murderous ghost children, among others.

If you want to move away from gory movies and toward the family-friendly, check out Hocus Pocus. This story of three witches brought back to life and the teenagers who try to stop them from gaining immortality is a cult classic with an all-star cast (Bette Midler, anyone?).

Kids also enjoy The Nightmare Before Christmas, which is the Tim Burton film, as well as the 1995 favorite Casper and, of course, Disney’s Halloweentown franchise. What are your favorite Halloween flicks?
