The Mitsubishi Outlander and the Ford Explorer are two modern SUVs on the car market. The two SUVs are fairly priced. The Explorer has an MSRP of $32,140 and the Outlander has an MSRP of about $23,945, about $8500 less than the Explorer. Both of the vehicles are ideal for getting all the kids to soccer practice, or loading up all the dogs and taking them to the park. These SUVs have the room of a minivan but have more of a sporty style.
The Outlander and the Explorer both have good fuel efficiency for all models they offer. The base model Outlander estimates 25 MPG for city driving and estimates 30 MPG for highway driving. The base model Explorer has a lower estimated MPG for city and highway. For city driving, it is rated at 19 MPG and for highway driving, it is rated for 27 MPG. There is just a small difference in the fuel efficiency for the highway of each vehicle, but the Outlander excels with its city MPG.
Both vehicles offer many safety features, including 7 airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview camera and rear parking sensors. The Outlander SEL and GT offer packages that include Forward Collision Mitigation. This safety system is not offered with the Ford Explorer. This safety system automatically applies all of the brakes on the vehicle when sensors in the front of the vehicle determine that an accident is imminent. The system is designed to help ease the force of accidents or avoid them all together. The Explorer offers a collision warning but it does not automatically apply the brakes.
The Explorer comes with a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty. The Outlander has a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty. This warranty covers 2 more years and 24,000 more miles over the Explorer. Mitsubishi also offers a longer powertrain warranty of 10 years or 100,000-miles. Ford only offers a powertrain warranty for 5 years or 60,000 miles. The Outlander engine, transmission, axles, or drivetrain is covered 5 more years, or 40,000 more miles, than the Explorer.
