The distinction between sedan-style cars and coupes is pretty simple, but it’s not as easy to decide which one is right for you. We’ve put together a breakdown on how to choose between sedan and coupe.

Sedans are four-door cars with five seats. They’re easier to climb in and out of, and the backseat is much more comfortable than in a coupe, so drivers who have backseat passengers would definitely be better off picking a sedan.

Coupes, on the other hand, have a cramped backseat but are overall more sporty-looking. If you won’t need the backseat much and you want a sports car look for a fraction of the price of an actual sports car, a coupe is a good choice.

Other than ease of access to the backseat and the amount of legroom there, there isn’t that much difference between sedans and coupes—they’re a similar style and tend to come with the same features. If you’re still in doubt, go with a sedan—you never know what the future will hold!
