How to Replace a Headlight Bulb
Winter is the worst time to have a headlight out, between the bad weather and the short days. If you notice a light out, just follow these easy steps to replace a headlight bulb to keep yourself and other drivers safe.
Changing a headlight bulb is one of the easiest maintenance tasks you can do—you usually won’t even need any tools. First you have to buy a bulb that matches your headlight, which you can find in your owner’s manual or by searching online.
Once you have the bulb, prop open the hood of your car and find the bulb holder, which is behind the headlight and looks like a trapezoid with three wires coming out of it. The three wires are attached to a plug, which has to be removed to get to the bulb. It will be held in place by either a plastic catch, a metal clip, or a screw cap. All three are simple to remove.
With the wiring removed, you can take out the bulb. The plug was plugged into the base of the bulb, which you’ll grasp and tug out. It should come out easily. Then just put the new bulb in, replace the plug and its holder, and close the hood. Turn your car on to test the new headlight.
