Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Finishes First in Asia Cross Country Rally
Mitsubishi decided to test its plug-in hybrid electric car, the Outlander PHEV, by taking it off-roading in the annual Asia Cross Country Rally. This year, the 2015 rally took place from August 8th through the 14th. The (modified) Outlander PHEV managed to cross the finish line after 40 hours, 1 minute, and 41 seconds – placing 20th in the overall race, but 1st among all competing electric cars.
This is the third year in a row that the Outlander PHEV has finished the race, but this year marks several benchmarks for the hybrid; it was officially released in Japan this year, is preparing for a European release, and is set to hit American shores as early as spring 2016, the first time the vehicle will debut in the US.
Though the Outlander PHEV in the Asia Cross Country Rally was modified for the race, as the saying goes, “racing improves the breed,” and this could be a sign the Outlander PHEV is destined for greater things.
