New Mitsubishi Hybrid Concept Hints at Montero Model’s Return
We’ve gotten a good look at the new Mitsubishi hybrid concept, the GC-PHEV Concept, yet again. The vehicle, which originally appeared at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2013, showed up again at the Chicago Auto Show recently. This time, however, it came touted as “the return of a legend.” Rumor has it that the “legend” in question is none other than the Mitsubishi Montero.
The Montero hasn’t been on sale since 2006, but we would welcome its return, especially if it keeps the funky and cool styling and hybrid capabilities of the GC-PHEV Concept. The latest spy shots captured of the concept remain heavily camouflaged, but the quirky angular design can’t be hidden. For example, the shape of the new grille and tailgate still show up through the camouflage.
The current concept features a 3.0L V6 engine, an electric motor, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and even a lithium-ion battery pack. We hope to see that system carry over unchanged to the production version, which will hit the market as a 2017 model. Come see us here at Carriage Mitsubishi to learn more today!
