Possible Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Hybrid Concept Headed to Tokyo Motor Show
Mitsubishi has promised a continual stream of new or updated products over the next couple of years. The new models have started to roll in with the 2016 Outlander and the 2016 Lancer. Now, we have heard that an Outlander Sport Hybrid concept may make its debut at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show.
This concept is likely to be near-production and will feature the new X-shaped design on the front end that the new Outlander already wears.
According to the Australian website Motoring, once the Outlander Sport hits production, the lineup will be expanded with the addition of a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. It would likely be a pair of electric motors paired with a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that will act as a generator to power the battery instead of actually driving the wheels.
Handling on the next-generation Outlander Sport should be greatly improved thanks to improvements made on Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system. These improvements will include a brake pressure sensor on each wheel.
Whatever ends up under the hood of the upcoming Outlander Sport, we’re excited to see the future of the Mitsubishi brand at the Tokyo Motor Show.
