A few years back, Mitsubishi released the Mirage hatchback, introducing the vehicle in the United States. That’s where the compact hatch found a comfortable, successful niche in a market not typically sought-after in the U.S., unlike Europe, where hatchbacks are in high demand and performance-focused variants and upper trim levels are common. Features like excellent fuel economy, affordability, and an industry-best warranty come together in a recipe for success. Now, Mitsubishi plans to expand the Mirage lineup with the Mitsubishi Mirage G4, a four-door sedan variant that the brand expects to be even more appealing to traditional American families.

The Mirage G4 was first revealed in February of 2016 at an automotive event in Toronto, followed shortly by the 2016 New York Auto Show in March. However, despite this, the G4 model is not new to the global industry. Mitsubishi has marketed the sedan in other markets as either the Mirage G4 or the Attrage for a few years now, and just recently decided to finally bring the affordable subcompact to American shores. A big plus? The 40 mpg combined fuel rating is the best possible gasoline-powered fuel economy in the entire U.S. industry, excluding hybrid vehicles.

Both the standard Mirage and the Mirage G4 will be receiving tech upgrades for the 2017 model year, including an available Rockford Fosgate sound system and even Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility for smartphone users. New materials on the steering wheel and seats will also be introduced in the 2017 versions.

The new Mitsubishi Mirage G4 is already beginning to arrive at Mitsubishi dealership across the U.S. with a base starting price of $14,830, a $1,000 price hike over the standard Mirage hatchback.
